Overview of the method
The landing section of the undersea cable can be constructed using steel pipes up to φ600mm and up to 200mm in length.
The muddy water jacking method allows long-distance underwater reach with small-diameter pipes.
Characteristics of the method
merit
⇒ Able to pass through obstacles such as revetments and wave-breaking blocks in a short distance
⇒ Small size of equipment makes it easy to transport
⇒ Overall cost reduction possible compared to large HDDs
⇒ No adhesion of shells, etc., as the inside of the pipe is kept dry until the wire is laid
demerit
⇒ Starting shaft and ground improvement required
⇒ Minimum steel pipe diameter is φ600, diameters smaller than this cannot be pumped
⇒ Pumping length must be 200m or less (varies depending on geology)
